The Porsche 917 is probably the most famous racing car in history and is surrounded by various myths and legends. Helmut Deimel has now created a cinematic monument to this remarkable sports car from Zuffenhausen. In 82 minutes of screen time, he tells the whole story of the car, from its development and presentation 1969 right through its years racing in the World Championship, its leading role in the Le Mans film, plus its exploits in Can-Am and in Europe at the Interserie. All these led eventually to Mark Donohue’s record-breaking drive at Talladega Speedway in 1975 where he recorded a lap at 221.61 mph.

In addition to extensive historic footage, the film contains interviews with protagonists such as Kurt Ahrens, Richard Attwood, Derek Bell, Vic Elford, Peter Falk, Hans Herrmann, Willi Kauhsen, Gijs van Lennep, Herbert Linge, Dr Helmut Marko, Hans Mezger, Ferdinand Piëch, and many more.
